YFU host families sought for Fall 2015
Monday / February 9, 2015
Ellsworth Community College will host at least two Youth for Understanding (YFU) international exchange students for the 2015-16 academic year, and Campus Coordinator Tina Ruch-Wesselmann is starting now to seek potential host families to ensure that the incoming YFU students’ needs are met.
YFU is a non-profit exchange organization that seeks families to mentor and host exchange students planning to attend colleges around the world, including Ellsworth Community College. Host families essentially combine their passion for community and social responsibility via this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. By hosting a student from a different country and sharing with him/her your family traditions and American culture experiences, host families build interpersonal bonds of international friendship that will last a lifetime.
Ruch-Wesselmann says host families of all shapes and sizes welcome YFU students into their homes as if they are one of their own children. “YFU exchange students bring spending money and have health insurance. They come prepared to follow family rules and want to become a part of the community,” she explains. Each student is also supported by Ruch-Wesselmann and others at ECC.
YFU students and their families can trust Youth For Understanding because of its reputation for quality, high safety standards, and strong support network. As one of the world’s oldest and largest exchange organizations, YFU has provided study abroad opportunities to more than 250,000 students for more than 60 years. The 2015-2016 academic year will mark ECC’s fifth year of participation with YFU.
“The YFU community is excited to promote international and interpersonal friendships at ECC in Iowa Falls,” says Ruch-Wesselmann.
