ECC inducts 40 into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

PTK spring 2017The Alpha Iota Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Ellsworth Community College inducted 40 new members this semester. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for two-year colleges. To qualify for membership, ECC students must be in a degree-seeking program with a cumulative 3.25 grade point average, and have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours.

After a welcome and introductions by Dr. Lisa Stock, ECC Dean of Academic Affairs and PTK Advisor, ECC Provost Dr. Martin Reimer talked with the inductees about the concept and value of servant leadership. Marketing Professor and guest speaker Kenneth Bell spoke about the meaning of the letters PTK. He encouraged the inductees to stay passionate, be true to yourself and always be kind.

“Sometimes you’ll slip, falter, fall down and completely fail,” Bell said. “But that is perfectly OK because it’s these life lessons that make you the person you are; they build and hone the essence of you and help you choose the real YOU.”

PTK President Melissa Gerken presented the inductees with a lit candle signifying a torch of knowledge and PTK Leadership Officer Trevor Smith gave each a white rose signifying purity and beauty of life. Inductees then recited the membership pledge.
