ECC’s Kevin Butt receives Outstanding Faculty Member at IACCT Annual Conference

Ellsworth Community College Agriculture Faculty, Kevin Butt, was presented with the 2017 Iowa Association of Community College Trustees Outstanding Faculty Member Award at the IACCT annual conference in Davenport on Thursday, July 20. The award was presented by IVCCD Board Chairman Yvonne Mallory.

The awards program reported that Butt has three philosophies for which he bases his teaching; 1, students should receive an interactive, community-based learning experience, 2, students should learn to analyze theoretical information and apply knowledge, and 3, academic and extracurricular involvements must develop communication, leadership and citizenship skills. ECC currently offers eight agriculture tracks, within these, students have the opportunity to manage and maintain a 133-acre farm and Kevin also utilizes his own cattle herd for ECC’s beef courses.

Kevin began is career with ECC in 2004. Outside of ECC, he is actively involved in farming with his dad and brother-in-law, growing 800 acres of corn and soybeans, and raising purebred Angus cattle. Kevin’s wife, Honoria, is an English professor at ECC. They have two daughters, Victoria, who graduated from ECC in May and will be attending Iowa state University in the fall and Olivia, a junior at Iowa Falls-Alden High School.
