ECC Ag Science club attends PAS conference

ECC Ag Science club attends PAS Conference.

Members of Ellsworth Community College’s Agricultural Science Club attended the 2018 Postsecondary Ag Students conference in Marshalltown. “PAS is one of the ten career and technical student organizations that has been approved by the U. S. Department of Education as an integral part of career and technical education,” said Kevin Butt, professor at ECC. “We are affiliated with the National Postsecondary Agricultural Students Organization and live out the motto “Uniting Education and Industry in Agriculture.”

“This year’s theme of ‘Your Next Step in Agriculture’ holds true for most of our students who qualified to compete at the National PAS conference held next month in Louisville, KY.,” Butt said.

State awards were garnered as follows:

In team events:

College Bowl-

  • Team 1 – Tylia Kaisand, Blake Ohm, Derrick Lenz, Lauren Dirksen, Morgan Strief – 15th Place.
  • Team 2 – Thomas Newhall, Ashley Nemechek, Hannah Lee, Alisha Storm, Taylor Olson – 11th Place

Livestock-

  • Beef – Morgan Strief, Tylia Kaisand, Lauren Dirksen – 9th Place
  • Swine – Ashley Nemechek, Alisha Storm, Nelson Findling – 1st Place (Advances to National PAS)
  • Ashley Nemechek – 1st Place individual
  • Alisha Storm – 2nd Place individual
  • Nelson Findling – 3rd Place individual

ECC also had two current students elected to serve on the state officer team. Taylor Olson was elected as State Secretary and Morgan Strief was elected as State-Vice President for the 2018-19 term. Former ECC students, Thomas Newhall and Victoria Butt completed their term as State Vice President and President.
