Randy Jennings to receive ECC honorary degree
Monday / April 30, 2018
The Ellsworth Legacy runs deep for the Jennings family. Randy Jennings was born and raised in Iowa Falls after his father accepted a job to coach basketball and teach for Ellsworth Community College in 1952. Jennings began serving on the Board of Trustees in 1986 and served as President from 2003 to 2010. In recognition of his more than 30 years of service, Jennings will be the recipient of an honorary Doctor of Humanities (honoris causa) degree at this year’s annual ECC commencement ceremony.
“I’ve served on the Board of Trustees for more than half of my life,” Jennings said with a smile. “The Ellsworth College Board of Trustees helps further education for young people, which is exciting, and it also helps further employment for Iowa Falls which is terribly important.”
Jennings graduated from Iowa Falls High School then went on to attend ECC for a semester before transferring to the University of Iowa, Arizona University and Northern Arizona University, where he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Finance. After college, Jennings and his wife, Joan, moved back to Iowa Falls to work with his father in the real-estate business. Randy assisted the Trustees in real estate matters prior to becoming a trustee. Randy and Joan have three children and four grandchildren. In addition to serving ECC, Jennings has served as a Rotary Club President, Iowa Falls Chamber Board, and the Highland Golf Club Board President.
“Ellsworth College impacts many lives and provides many opportunities in this community,” Jennings said. “And we are all richer because of it. I could not work with a better group of people than the Ellsworth College Trustees, the administration and staff of Ellsworth Community College and Iowa Valley Community College District. It has and will continue to be my honor and pleasure to serve as a trustee”.
The honorary degree will be presented to Jennings during the ECC commencement ceremony on Friday, May 4, at 2 p.m. in the Dittmer Gymnasium on the Ellsworth campus in Iowa Falls.
