ECC will host Veterans Day program on Nov. 12

The public is invited to attend a Veterans Day program hosted by Ellsworth Community College on Monday, Nov. 12. At noon there will be a formal Veteran’s recognition ceremony in the lobby of Kruse Main Hall with remarks by CPT Justin Wygle, a member of the 1-194 Field Artillery Battalion in Fort Dodge.

In August 2001, CPT Wygle enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard with Charlie Company 1-133 Infantry, the Iowa Falls Garrison. He was deployed to Sinai Peninsula in support of Multinational Forces and Observers from 2003-2004, and his second deployment was to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006-2007. During his Iraq deployment his unit was a part of the Surge of 2007 and spent over 16 consecutive months in Iraq.

All area veterans and friends of the military are invited to join ECC students, faculty and staff at these events.

The recognition ceremony at noon will include recognition of all veterans in attendance and a performance by ECC student, Brooklyn Benning.

Veterans Day is an official federal holiday to honor all those who have served in the armed services. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed Armistice Day in 1919; it was changed by Congress to Veterans Day in 1954.
