Register now for ECC fall term classes

IOWA FALLS – Now’s the time to apply for admission to Ellsworth Community College and register for fall term classes, which start Monday, Aug. 26. The sooner the better, the ECC Admissions Office staff advises … many required freshman classes are already filling up.

“It seems like our students fall into two distinct groups: the ones who decide early and register early, and the ones who wait until summer to commit,” says Adriane Sietsema, ECC Director of Admissions. “Either is fine, but those who still haven’t completed paperwork for admission need to get things moving right now so they have a good selection of classes to choose from this fall.”

Sietsema says interest in ECC remains strong for several reasons, one of which may be the fact that ECC has one of the highest student success rates in the state. The word is also out that ECC graduates have one of the lowest average student debt loads of any college or university in Iowa, which is a big factor for individuals and families as they consider investing in a college education.

“Another big factor for consideration this fall is the new Last-Dollar Scholarship that’s available to qualified students in many of our career programs,” says Sietsema. “The Last-Dollar Scholarship will pay for a student’s remaining tuition balance if enrolled in one of many designated career technology programs. That’s right … the State of Iowa will pay the student’s remaining tuition, whatever is left after applying any grants or scholarships received!”

She says that there’s still time to apply for the Last-Dollar Scholarship (priority deadline is Aug. 1) and some ECC scholarships to help offset college costs.

With approximately 80 percent of ECC students taking the first two years’ coursework at Ellsworth and then transferring to finish a bachelor’s degree, the College’s Admissions Partnership Program (APP) with Iowa, Iowa State and UNI are also popular. Students who want to start at Ellsworth and transfer to one of the Regent universities can be enrolled at both colleges at the same time, which facilitates the transfer of credits and increases the students’ comfort level at both colleges.

“The other big selling point for us is that students love the small, private college feel of the Ellsworth campus as soon as they step on the grounds,” says Sietsema. “You’ll find friendly faces at every corner, ready to help you with any questions you might have.”

Ellsworth Community College’s fall term classes begin Monday, Aug. 26, and run through Friday, Dec. 13. The ECC Admissions Office is located on the second floor of the Gentle Student Center on the ECC campus, 1100 College Ave., Iowa Falls; the office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m Monday through Friday.
