ECC is named a Home Base Iowa CHAMPS Partner
Friday / August 9, 2019
Ellsworth Community College has been named a Partner of the Home Base Iowa Certified Higher Academic Military Partner (CHAMPs) program, which helps promote Iowa as an attractive place for veterans and their family who choose to pursue their higher education goals.
To qualify as a Home Base Iowa CHAMPS Partner, ECC documented how it met specific criteria related to on-campus veteran resources, military transitional considerations, and financial considerations for student-veterans.
Specifically, ECC offers on-campus veteran resources including a full-time veterans’ services coordinator (Wanda Koehrsen) and veterans’ benefits coordinator (Mary Weaver) and study space in the Osgood Library. Additional military considerations include credit honored for established military training and schools, preferential registration dates for student-veterans, scholarships for transitioning service members and their dependents, automatic in-state tuition granted to eligible veterans/spouses/children in Iowa, and deferred billing to ensure that the timing of VA benefits does not hinder academic success. ECC also provides student-veterans with online career placement assistance via the Career Coach website as well as assistance from program-specific faculty and staff.
“We are pleased to be named a Home Base Iowa CHAMPS Partner along with several businesses and organizations in Hardin County,” says Dr. Barb Klein, ECC Dean of Student Affairs. “We’ve enrolled and graduated many student-veterans over the years, and we appreciate this opportunity to highlight our continued support of them in meeting their educational goals.”
Veterans interested in enrolling in ECC fall term classes (which begin Monday, Aug. 26) are encouraged to contact the ECC Admissions Office at 641-648-4611 or email@example.com. The Admissions Office is located on the second floor of Gentle Student Center on the ECC campus, 1100 College Ave. in Iowa Falls.
