Nursing, Associate Degree (ADN/RN)
Applications for the program are accepted throughout the year, with a new class beginning each August. Your Nursing Admissions Folder must be completed by March 15 for full consideration. However, qualified applicants with completed admissions folders will be accepted on a “first-come, first-served” basis after this deadline.

Prerequisites
Students planning to enter the Associate Degree Nursing (RN) program are required to have a copy of their current Iowa Practical Nursing license. (NOTE: Summer graduates must submit a copy of their PN license no later than the start of the fall semester ADN program classes. Failure to do so will be grounds for administrative withdrawal from the program. Extenuating circumstances will be subject to approval by the nursing program director.) Students must also successfully completed the following courses:
- BIO 151 Nutrition (3 credits)
- BIO 168 Human Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credits)
- BIO 173 Human Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credits)
- BIO 186 Microbiology (4 credits)
- EDU 160 Human Growth and Development (3 credits)
General Education Graduation Requirements
- ENG 105 Composition I (3 credits)
- PSY 111 Introduction to Psychology (3 credits)
- SOC 110 Introduction to Sociology (3 credits)
Within these prerequisite courses, applicants will need to earn a minimum 2.7 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
- Transfer Students: It is highly encouraged to send transcripts to the ECC Admissions Office early to have them evaluated for transfer credit.
- Science courses must have been completed within the past 10 years.

Clinical Requirements
Associate Degree Nursing students must complete clinical rotations while in the program. The total number of clinical hours required for the entire Associate Degree Nursing program is broken down between six different clinical rotations and a preceptorship at the end of the program. Each student will gain clinical experience in the areas of medical/surgical nursing, obstetrics, pediatrics and mental health nursing in the hospital setting. Students will also receive clinical experience in specialty settings such as public health, leadership and school nurse. Clinical rotations are taught by full time nursing faculty and adjunct clinical nursing faculty.
