ECC’s 125th Commencement is May 9, 2015

The public is invited to ECC’s 125th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m. at the Martin Ellsworth Dittmer Gymnasium on the Ellsworth Community College campus, 1100 College Ave. The ECC Class of 2015 includes 204 applicants for graduation, some of whom completed their coursework in December 2014, most of whom are completing coursework this spring, and others of whom may complete their coursework this summer.
The commencement program begins with the presentation of colors by American Legion Hyman Peavey Post 188 Color Guard followed by the National Anthem sung by ECC freshmen Riley Hahn of Loomis, NE. Following a welcome by ECC Provost Dr. Nancy Muecke, special music, Our Alma Mater, will be presented by ECC’s Choir in honor of the college’s 125th anniversary. The Address to Graduates will be given by none other than Ellsworth College founder and namesake Eugene S. Ellsworth, portrayed by ECC Drama instructor Danny Reams. The Graduates’ Response will be given by Justice Thigpen of Tampa, FL.
Representing the Ellsworth College Board of Trustees, Darwin Miller will present an Honorary Doctorate degree to C. John Campbell. Awards will then be presented to Panther Service Award recipients, All-Iowa Academic Team members Samantha Kluesner of Iowa Falls and Melissa Winter of Hubbard, as well as other scholastic award honorees. Degrees and diplomas will then be conferred.
A reception honoring all graduates and honorees, relatives and friends will be held in the Dale Howard Family Activity Center immediately following the ceremony. The Dale Howard Family Activity Center will be closed for membership activities from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
