Dr. Martin Reimer is new ECC Provost

Dr. Martin Reimer, Dean of Student Support at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, has been named the new Provost of Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. Dr. Reimer Dr.  Martin Reimerbegins his new duties on Monday, Aug. 10, replacing Dr. Nancy Muecke, who resigned in June.

“I’m extremely excited and honored to be able to work with everyone at Ellsworth Community College and Iowa Valley,” says Dr. Reimer. “I was very impressed with the community, the faculty and staff, the students, and the other college stakeholders I met during my interview. My family and I are really excited to be able to be part of the future of Ellsworth and Iowa Falls.”

Dr. Reimer began his career in the business sector, working for Trouvay & Cauvin in Houston, TX, and JPMorgan Chase Bank in Houston and Tokyo. Transitioning to the field of higher education, Dr. Reimer joined the staff of WITCC as Dean of Corporate College in 2006; he was promoted to his current position there in 2014. He has also been an instructor at WITCC and taught elementary education at Colegio Americano de Puebla in Puebla, Mexico; he did his student teaching at Central College in Pella.

Dr. Chris Duree, IVCCD Chancellor, said the College had an outstanding pool of candidates who applied for the position. “We went through a comprehensive selection process, involving many stakeholders who represented groups including the Ellsworth College Board of Trustees and the Ellsworth College Foundation, as well a diverse group of our own administration, faculty and staff. The process was very democratic, and all stakeholders had an opportunity for input with an equal voice. There was exceptionally strong support for Dr. Reimer, and we believe he will provide outstanding leadership moving Ellsworth Community College forward into the future.”

Darwin Miller, chair of the Ellsworth College Board of Trustees, added, “This was probably the strongest group of candidates we’ve had for this position in recent memory. I think it speaks to the reputation Ellsworth has in the world of higher education. We are ranked nationally in terms of our students’ success and we have a strong tradition of academic and athletic excellence. Dr. Reimer brings a strong background in resource acquisition, experience with international students, and building partnerships with business and industry. The Ellsworth College Board of Trustees looks forward to working with him.”
