ECC to celebrate 125th Homecoming Oct. 5-10

Homecoming FlierEllsworth Community College celebrates its 125th Homecoming next week. The week-long festivities include a variety of student activities, a home volleyball game Tuesday night, a talent show and king/queen coronation ceremony, a fun run/walk on Saturday, and more. The grand finale will be the Panthers’ home football game Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1 pm at Cadet Field.

“This is a special year commemorating the 125th anniversary of Ellsworth Community College,” says ECC Provost Dr. Martin Reimer. “The school has a long and rich tradition for helping students develop inside and outside the classroom. We cannot do it alone … we sincerely thank the families, alumni, community, and other benefactors for supporting our students. It means so much for them to know you are behind them as they work hard to reach their educational and career goals. Please take the time to celebrate with us during ECC’s Homecoming Week!”

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, ECC students will participate in a Trivia Night at 7:30 pm at the Dale Howard Family Activity Center (DHFAC) café.

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, the Panthers take on Iowa Lakes during a home volleyball game beginning at 7 pm in Dittmer Gym. Door prizes will be awarded to ECC students between the games.

On Thursday, Oct. 8, Ellsworth students and staff will participate in a Dodgeball Tournament starting at 9 pm in the DHFAC Gym. Teams must register with Coach Mike Minikwu before Wednesday, Oct. 7, to participate.

On Friday, Oct. 9, the E-Club will induct seven individuals into the ECC Athletics Hall of Fame. Tickets for the dinner and ceremony, which begins at 6 pm in the DHFAC Café, must be purchased in advance through the ECC Athletic Office by calling 641-648-4611. The 2015 inductees include Andre Tippett (football), Jerry Senters (football assistant coach), Dr. Bryan Thompsen (football), Tony Lewis (basketball), Lisa Huinker Rude (softball), Denny Saltzman (baseball) and Gary Rabe (contributor, E-Club President).

Also on Friday, the annual Student Talent Show and Homecoming King/Queen Coronation will be held at 7 pm in Kruse Main’s Hamilton Auditorium. The talent show and coronation are open to the public.

Homecoming Week ends with a bang on Saturday, Oct. 10. Beginning 8:30 am the public is invited to participate in a Homecoming Fun Run/Walk; registration is free, and can be completed at 8:30 in front of the DHFAC. Prizes will be awarded to the top ECC male/female student finishers and the top community male/female finishers.

ECC students and their families can enjoy rides on the Scenic City Empress from 10 am to noon at the Iowa Falls Boat Club, 1113 Union Street. The ECC Student Store in Gentle Student Center will be open from 11 am to 2 pm for those who want to purchase items, and students and families can then have lunch together at the GSC cafeteria from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Saturday’s highlight will be the Homecoming football game in which the Panthers will face Fort Scott Community College at 1 pm at Cadet Field (north of the campus). The Homecoming King and Queen and 2015 Hall of Fame Inductees will be honored during halftime.
