400 high schoolers at ECC Career Day!

Career Fair 2015More than 400 area high school students attended Ellsworth Community College’s annual Career Day on Wednesday, Oct. 28, to learn about careers ranging from agriculture to wildlife. Participants came from Iowa Falls-Alden, AGWSR, Greenbelt, Grundy Center, South Hardin, Dike-New Hartford, Aplington-Parkersburg, Gladbrook-Reinbeck and South Hamilton High Schools.

Keynote speaker Adam Carroll spoke to the students about financial literacy and how to finance a college education in the most fiscally savvy ways. ECC faculty and staff members conducted the career sessions about Agriculture/Equine/Animal Science, Biotechnology/Veterinary Medicine/Renewable Energy, Art/Music/Drama/Graphic Design, Business/Accounting/Computers, Conservation/Wildlife, Criminal Justice/Pre-Law, Education, Engineering/Math/Pre-Medicine, Mass Communications/Public Relations, Military, Nursing/Medical Assisting, Physical Education/Sports Management/Recreation/Athletic Training, and Psychology. The event concluded with lunch and a performance by hypnotist Daniel James.

“This was the first time that Gladbrook-Reinbeck and Grundy Center and High School students participated, so we were excited about that,” says Adriane Sietsema, ECC Director of Admissions. “This is our largest event of the year, and it was our largest Career Fair ever. It was a great opportunity for high school students in all grades to either get their first exposure to a college campus, learn more about careers, or help clarify their options in their college search process. Our speakers did a phenomenal job!”
