Jon Luiken and Kaleigh Greufe

Kaleigh Greufe of Blairsburg and Jonathan Luiken of Webster City, both sophomores at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, were among the top Iowa community college students honored at a March 2 ceremony in Des Moines. The two were named to the 2016 All-Iowa Academic Team, sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society for two-year colleges.

Kaleigh is enrolled in ECC’s Early Childhood Education program and plans to transfer to Iowa State University after Ellsworth. She is a member of ECC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter and has been on the Dean’s List for the entirety of her academic career at Ellsworth.

Jonathan is a Biotechnology major who plans to transfer to the University of Northern Iowa after graduating from ECC. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and has been a Dean’s List honoree during his two years at Ellsworth. He was named both the ECC Biology Student of the Year and the ECC Biotechnology Student of the Year for 2014-2015.

“As the Phi Theta Kappa advisor, I am very proud of Kaleigh’s and Jon’s accomplishments.  They both work hard in their classes and step up to help out across campus when needed.  I look for great things for both of these students in the future,” said Dr. Lisa Stock, ECC Dean of Students & Academic Affairs.

Kaleigh and Jonathan were accompanied to the recognition ceremony by Dr. Martin Reimer, ECC Provost; Dr. Lisa Stock; Dr. Chris Duree, Iowa Valley Community College District Chancellor; and IVCCD Board of Director members Deborah Crosser, Deb Jones and Delbert Kellogg. Kaleigh is the daughter of Randy and Sandra Greufe, and was accompanied to the ceremony by her mother. Jonathan was accompanied by his wife, Angela.
