Ellsworth honors student accomplishments

Ellsworth Community College celebrated student success in a big way at its annual Honors Reception held April 20. The College recognized many students for a variety of scholastic and athletic successes exhibited during the 2015-2016 academic year. The ceremony was emceed by students Kelbey Barbadillo of Salt Lake City, UT, and Terry White of Monmouth, IL. The honorees are listed by hometown:

Kaleigh Greufe, Maurie TomkeBlairsburg – Kaleigh Greufe received a Panther Service Project Award presented by sponsor Maurie Tomke. She was also recognized as one of two ECC students named to the All-Iowa Academic Team, a member of Phi Theta Kappa (academic honor society), and a High Honors graduate (3.75 – 3.99 GPA).

Grace Leverton, Dr. Jim Cheaney and Brooke MensingCoulter – Brooke Mensing received one of two Excellence in Human Biology Awards presented by instructor Dr. Jim Cheaney.

Crown Point, IN – Autumn Bright received one of two Equine Outstanding Leadership Awards presented by instructors Julie Burchett and Joe Humphrey; she was out of town at a horse judging competition and could not attend the ceremony.

Deloit – Jane Hoffmann received the Outstanding Animal Science Student Award presented by instructors Kevin Butt and Eric Weuve. She was also recognized as a member of Phi Theta Kappa (academic honor society) and an Honors graduate (3.5 – 3.74 GPA). Hoffman was out of town at a horse judging competition and could not attend the ceremony.

Anibal Reinoso, Nate Forsyth and Brianna SchaeferDenver – Brianna Schaefer received the Outstanding Female Athlete Award presented by Athletic Director & Softball Coach Nate Forsyth. She was also recognized as a member of Phi Theta Kappa (academic honor society).

Dubuque – Jase Grant received the Outstanding Math Student Award presented by instructor Dr. Ben Rislow. He was also recognized as a High Honors graduate (3.75 – 3.99 GPA). Grant was out of town with the baseball team and could not attend the ceremony.

Dumont – Thomas Newhall received the Outstanding Farm Management Student Award presented by instructors Kevin Butt and Eric Weuve. He was also recognized as an Honors graduate (3.5 – 3.74 GPA). Newhall is in Germany on an agricultural exchange trip and will receive his award when he returns home in May.

Olivia Tym and Nancy SlifeHubbard – Olivia Tym received the Outstanding Conservation Technology Student Award presented by instructor Nancy Slife. She was also recognized as a High Honors graduate (3.75 – 3.99 GPA).

Humboldt – April Jones received the Excellence in Education Award presented by instructor Ed Geitz.April Jones and Ed Geitz

Iowa Falls

  • Kayla Knudson received the Outstanding Agribusiness Student Award presented by instructors Kevin Butt and Eric Weuve.
  • Steven (Alex) Long received the U.S. History Student of the Year Award presented by instructor Scott Kauzlarich. He was also recognized as a member of Phi Theta Kappa (academic honor society) and a High Honors graduate (3.75 – 3.99 GPA).
  • Hasitha Nilaweera received the Jack Richards Scholarship presented by instructor Dr. Ben Rislow, and was recognized as a member of Phi Theta Kappa (academic honor society).
  • Gared Stockwell received the Outstanding Ag Science Transfer Student Award presented by instructors Kevin Butt and Eric Weuve; Stockwell was also recognized as a member of Phi Theta Kappa (academic honor society), and an Honors graduate (3.5 – 3.74 GPA).

Papudo, Valparaiso, Chile – Anibal Reinoso received the Outstanding Male Athlete Award presented by Athletic Director & former Golf Coach Nate Forsyth.

Plainfield – Brittany Murphy received the Equine Hardest Working Student Award presented by instructors Julie Burchett and Joe Humphrey. She was also recognized as an Honors graduate (3.5 – 3.74 GPA).

Plymouth, MN – Hannah Nelson received one of two Equine Outstanding Leadership Student Awards and the Equine Best All-Around Student Award, both presented by instructors Julie Burchett and Joe Humphrey. She was also recognized as a High Honors graduate (3.75 – 4.0 GPA). Nelson was out of town at a horse judging competition and could not attend the ceremony.

Hasitha Nilaweera and Dr. Ben RislowRadcliffe – Brandi Bulten received the Excellence in Writing Award presented by instructor Honoria Balogh.

Skarholman, Stockholm, Sweden – Isabelle Gullicksen received the Equine Most Improved Student Award presented by instructors Julie Burchett and Joe Humphrey. She was also recognized as a High Honors graduate (3.75 – 3.99 GPA).

Webster City – Jonathan Luiken was recognized as one of two ECC students named to the All-Iowa Academic Team, a member of Phi Theta Kappa (academic honor society), and one of only two Highest Honors graduates (4.0 GPA).

Wellsburg – Grace Leverton received one of two Excellence in Human Biology Awards presented by instructor Dr. Jim Cheaney.

Joe Humphrey, Brittany Murphy, Isabelle Gullicksen and Julie BurchettZearing – Becca Dunahoo received a Panther Service Project Award presented by sponsor Maurie Tomke.
