Nearly 500 high school students attend ECC Career Day

475 area high school sophomores and juniors attended career day at Ellsworth Community College on Oct. 17. ECC’s career day is geared to guide students toward possible careers and learn more about the college process. The local high schools included, AGWSR, Iowa Falls/Alden, South Hardin, Aplington-Parkersburg and Webster City.

Guest speaker Jason Levasseur, incorporated his musical talents with motivational talk about the importance of having the right “band members” in your life along with being a “rock star” in your life and in the lives of those around you. Students attended a college planning session along with two career interest sessions that allowed them to speak to professionals in 17 different career fields. These career fields included nursing/medical assistant, education, psychology, history, business, criminal justice, communications/PR, engineering, science, art/graphic design, conservation/wildlife, military, PE/sports management, marketing, athletic training and agriculture. The day concluded with a performance by Mission IMPROVable.

“Career day is a great opportunity for potential students to visit campus and learn the steps they need to take to prepare for their future,” said Adriane Sietsema, Director of Admissions at Ellsworth Community College. “Giving the students an opportunity to meet with professionals in various career fields allows them to have a better understanding of what they can do to prepare for college and their future career.”
