Tragedy Strikes Ellsworth Community
Wednesday / April 28, 2021
The Ellsworth Community College campus community is mourning the loss of a student following a tragic accident on Tuesday evening in which the student drowned.
The student was a freshman on the ECC Wrestling team. He was on campus a short time but made a big impact while he was here. With a fun, outgoing personality, he was known to turn strangers into friends.
“We are heartbroken about the loss. This tragedy is felt by all,” said Martin Reimer, Provost of Ellsworth Community College. “The entire college community is struck with feelings of sadness and disbelief today after losing one of our own.”
“This is a tragic loss for our community,” said Nate Forsyth, Athletic Director at Ellsworth. “He was a great addition to our wrestling team, and he will be remembered for his ability to make connections and lead the team. He will be missed.”
There will be a vigil to honor and remember him on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. near the Iowa Falls Veterans Memorial on Foster Boulevard west of the Washington Street bridge. The campus will be sharing memories of his life and reflecting on how much he meant to the campus community.
Grief counselors are on hand at Ellsworth to assist students in processing the loss.
