ECC’s 2018 commencement ceremony is Friday, May 10, at 2 pm at the Martin Ellsworth Dittmer Gymnasium; the ceremony includes December graduates, as well as those who will complete their graduation requirements this May or during the summer of 2018. There is no cost to participate, and all qualified graduates are encouraged to participate.
Candidates for graduation may pick up caps and gowns May 10 beginning at 12:30 pm at the southwest corner of the Dale Howard Family Activity Center gym.
Gowns must be returned to Cooper Cap and Gown employees immediately following the ceremony. The cap and tassel are yours to keep. Students will be financially responsible for gowns that are damaged or not returned.
Please wear appropriate attire under your gown. Shoes and clothing should be appropriate for the occasion. Please do not wear flip-flops.
May 10 instructions for graduates
There will not be an actual rehearsal before graduation. At 1:30 pm all students will line up in alphabetical order by last name in the Dale Howard gym and be given instructions for procession. A staff member will assist you during the line up process. Students arriving late may not be allowed to participate.
Designated staff will lead graduates into the Martin Ellsworth Dittmer Gym and direct them to the appropriate seats. Students should continue to stand after the processional music stops. Men should remove their mortarboard (graduation cap) during the National Anthem.
During the processional and ceremony, tassels should be worn on the right side of the mortarboard. At the appropriate time, graduates will be directed to the right side of the stage, where each graduate will hand his or her name card to the reader and wait for his/her name to be read before crossing the stage. Following awarding of degrees and diplomas, the graduating class will be directed to move the tassels to the left side.
Please do not throw caps into the air. Gowns must be returned to Cooper’s Cap & Gown employees in the DHFAC Gym immediately following the ceremony; the cap and tassel are yours to keep. Students are financially responsible for gowns that are not returned.
The College marketing staff will be taking photos for use in College publications, advertising and on our website. If you don’t want to be photographed, let the photographer know before graduation starts.
Seats are available on a first-come, first serve basis. There is no reserved seating for families and guests. Family and guests should enter the Martin Ellsworth Dittmer Gymnasium through the east doors on River Street.
Reception in Dale Howard Family Activity Center
A reception for all graduates, their families and friends will be held immediately following the ceremony in the Dale Howard Family Activity Center Cafe.
