ECC’s 2019 commencement ceremony is Friday, May 10, at 2 pm in the Martin Ellsworth Dittmer Gymnasium. The ceremony includes December 2018 graduates, as well as those who will complete their graduation requirements this May or during the summer of 2019. There is no cost to participate.
Candidates for graduation may pick up caps and gowns May 10 beginning at 12:30 pm in the southwest corner of the Dale Howard Family Activity Center Gymnasium. Shoes and clothing should be appropriate for the occasion. Gowns must be returned to Cooper Cap and Gown employees immediately following the ceremony. The cap and tassel are yours to keep. Students will be financially responsible for gowns that are damaged or not returned.
May 10 instructions for graduates
There will not be an actual “rehearsal” before graduation. At 1:30 pm all students will line up in alphabetical order by last name in the Dale Howard Gymnasium and be given instruction for procession. A staff member will assist you during the lineup process. Students arriving late may not be allowed to participate.
Designated staff will lead graduates into the Martin Ellsworth Dittmer Gymnasium and direct them to the appropriate seats. Students should continue to stand after the processional music stops. Men should remove their mortarboard (graduation cap) during the National Anthem.
During the processional and ceremony, tassels should be worn on the right side of the mortarboard. You will be directed to stand to confer the degrees. After the appropriate remarks, graduates will be directed to the right side of the stage, where each graduate will hand his or her name card to the reader and wait for his/her name to be called before crossing the stage. Following awarding of degrees and diplomas, students will be directed to move their tassels to the left side.
Please do not throw caps into the air. Corners of a thrown cap may cause personal injury. Gowns must be returned to Cooper’s Cap and Gown employees in the DHFAC gymnasium immediately following the ceremony. The mortarboard and tassel are yours to keep. Students are financially responsible for gowns that are not returned.
The College marketing staff will be taking photos for use in College publications, advertising, and on our website. If you don’t want to be photographed, let the photographer know before graduation starts.
Seats are available on a first-come, first served basis. There is no reserved seating for families and guests. Guests should enter the Martin Ellsworth Dittmer Gymnasium through the east entrance on River Street.
Reception in Dale Howard Family Activity Center
A reception for all graduates, their families and friends will be held immediately following the ceremony in the Dale Howard Family Activity Center Cafe.
