Culinary Certificate: Sanitation, Knife Skills, and Kitchen Experience in Two Semesters
Head cooks and chefs oversee daily food preparation in restaurants, resorts, and private households. The work moves fast, and it rewards people who stay organized under pressure. Chefs who run their own restaurants or catering businesses combine cooking with management skills.
The Culinary Certificate starts with sanitation and safety, basic food preparation, and food fundamentals. In the second semester you add knife skills and a practicum that puts you in a real kitchen. The certificate is offered at East Marshall and Marshalltown High Schools, and can also be offered as a Career Academy through local high schools.
