Dental Assisting: An 11-Month Diploma Accredited by the ADA's Commission on Dental Accreditation

Dental assistants keep the dental office running. They seat and prepare patients, prepare instruments, chart, assist during procedures, take radiographs, and teach patients about preventive dentistry.


Iowa Valley's 11-month Dental Assisting diploma covers six areas: chairside assisting, infection control, radiographic techniques, office management, laboratory techniques, and patient education. Three Assisting Clinic courses are part of the program. Graduates are eligible to sit for exams for Certified Dental Assistant, Infection Control, and Dental Radiation Health and Safety. The program is accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation and qualifies for the Last-Dollar Scholarship.

Yes. Three Assisting Clinic courses are part of the plan of study.

Is Dental Assisting eligible for the Last-Dollar Scholarship?

Yes. Dental Assisting at MCC is a qualifying program for 2026-27. The scholarship covers tuition and institution-wide fees not already paid by other state and federal grants and scholarships, and can make tuition free for eligible Iowa residents.
