Powerline Technician: Train to Install, Construct, and Maintain Overhead and Underground Lines
Powerline technicians install, construct, and maintain the electrical lines that deliver power. Graduates work for electric utilities, rural electric cooperatives, municipal utilities, and utility construction contractors.
The diploma emphasizes hands-on experience. Students learn about the generation, transmission,
distribution, safety, and measurement of electric power, and gain experience with
the materials, hardware, and equipment technicians use. Two Line Utility Field Training
courses are at the center of the plan of study, alongside an OSHA 10-Hour Utility
Industry course and a Commercial Driver's License and Tools course. Powerline Technician
qualifies for the Last-Dollar Scholarship.

Is Powerline Technician eligible for the Last-Dollar Scholarship?
Yes. It's a qualifying program at MCC for 2026-27. The scholarship covers tuition and institution-wide fees not already paid by other state and federal grants and scholarships, for eligible Iowa residents.
