ECC prepares to break ground for new dorm
IOWA FALLS – Ellsworth Community College will break ground for a new residence hall on Monday, June 14, at 2 PM. The groundbreaking will be held at 804 Elm Street, just west of the Math Science building on ECC’s campus. This is the first step in many residence hall updates which fall under the scope of the bond referendum that passed in November 2019.
Initially, ECC’s solution to updating campus housing included a new addition to the College Apartments prior to a renovation of existing residence halls. After much research, Iowa Valley Community College District, along with architects for the bond projects, OPN Architects, Inc. based out of Des Moines, determined that it would be more cost-efficient to construct an entirely new facility prior to a renovation of Thompson Hall.
The residence hall will include new dorm-style residences, study spaces, a computer lab,and other amenities. The new residence hall, name yet to be determined, will be complete in the Summer of 2022 and ready for students that same fall.
