Ellsworth Community College Introduces New Welding Program for Fall 2024

IOWA FALLS – Ellsworth Community College has announced the launch of a new Welding program, which will begin enrolling students for the Fall 2024 semester.

The Welding program will offer both classroom education and hands-on training in multiple welding processes and techniques, preparing students for entry-level jobs as welders, cutters, and welding machine operators. Students will learn valuable skills such as welding safety, blueprint reading, metallurgy, and all major welding and cutting processes including SMAW (stick welding), GMAW (MIG welding), FCAW (flux-cored arc welding), GTAW (TIG welding), and oxyfuel cutting.

“We are excited to add the Welding program at ECC,” said Dr. Barb Klein, Ellsworth Community College Provost. “Welding is a skill that is in high demand across many industries. This program will provide students with the knowledge and experience to start a successful career as a welder.”

The Welding program will be offered as a technical diploma or certificate. The program is designed to be completed in 1 year for a diploma, or 1 semester for a certificate. Students may begin their training at the beginning of the fall 2024 term, and ECC’s Welding programs are available to high school students for dual high school/college credit. High school students should check with a guidance counselor for enrollment information.

“There is a shortage of skilled welders in our region, so our new Welding program will help address this need,” said Blake Walker, ECC Welding Faculty. “I look forward to providing real-world experiences for our students so they may learn the skills they need to graduate and start their careers.”

The Welding program is currently being offered on a limited basis for high school students this academic year and will be available for open enrollment to all beginning in the Fall of 2024.

Ellsworth Community College, in collaboration with Iowa Falls Chamber Main Street, will be hosting a Welding Open House in the Welding Lab on November 1st from 4:00 – 6:00 PM with a ribbon cutting at 5:00 PM. The Welding Lab is located inside the Trades & Industry building on the Ellsworth Main Campus.
