Medical Assistants give healthcare a human touch, helping patients to feel at ease in the doctor’s office and to understand the doctor’s instructions. They provide medical office administrative services, perform clinical duties, and conduct lab testing. Clinical duties include (but are not limited to) collecting and preparing lab specimens, drawing blood, taking medical histories, preparing patients for examinations, assisting the physician during the exam, performing basic laboratory tests, instructing patients about medication and special diets, preparing and administering medications as directed by a physician, taking electrocardiograms, and removing sutures and changing dressings.
ECC’s 11-month Medical Assisting diploma program includes instruction in basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical law ethics, patient psychology, and communications, medical office procedures, clinical examination testing, and treatment procedures.
